Surgery to remove all or part of the kidney (nephrectomy) is recommended. This may include removing the bladder and surrounding tissues or lymph nodes. The treatment is unlikely to occur unless the entire tumor is removed surgically.
Hormone treatments may reduce tumor growth in some cases.
Chemotherapy is usually effective in the treatment of kidney cancer. However, the drug Interleukin-2 (IL-2) can help a small number of patients. It tells the immune system to kill cancer cells. And 'Highly toxic.
Other chemotherapy drugs have been used, but patients generally do not live long, when the disease has spread outside the kidney.
New drugs to treat kidney cancer are:
Sorafenib (Nexavar)
Sunitinib (Sutent)
Temsirolimus (Torisel)
Bevacizumab (Avastin)
Radiation therapy usually does not work for the RCC so that is not often used.

Diagnosis Of Kidney Cancer
If a patient has symptoms that suggest kidney cancer, the doctor may perform one or more of the following:
Physical examination: A doctor checks general signs of health and tests for fever and high blood pressure. The doctor feels upset and half of tumors.
Urine samples: urine checked for blood and other signs of disease.
Blood tests: The laboratory control of the blood to see how the kidneys. The laboratory may verify the level of various substances such as creatinine. A high creatinine level may mean the kidneys are not doing their job.

Computed tomography (CT): An X-ray machine linked to a computer takes a series of detailed pictures of the kidneys. The patient may receive an injection of dye to the kidneys clearly seen in the images. A CT scan can show a kidney tumor.
Ultrasound: The ultrasound device uses sound waves that people can not hear. The waves bounce off the kidneys, and a computer uses the echoes to create a picture called a sonogram. A solid tumor or cyst, which shows a sonogram.
Biopsy: In some cases, the doctor may perform a biopsy. A biopsy is the removal of tissue for cancer cells. The doctor inserts a thin needle through the skin into the kidney to remove a small amount of tissue. The doctor may use ultrasound or x-rays to guide the needle. A pathologist uses a microscope to detect cancer cells in tissues.

Kidney Cancer Overview
Kidney cancer is cancer that originates in the kidneys. Your kidneys are two bean-shaped organs, each about the size of your fist. They're located behind your abdominal organs, with one kidney on each side of your spine. In adults, the most common type of kidney cancer is renal cell carcinoma. Other less common types of kidney cancer can occur. Transitional cell carcinoma, which affects the ureters, can also begin in the kidneys. Children are more likely to develop a kind of kidney cancer called Wilms' tumor.
The incidence of kidney cancer seems to be increasing, though it isn't clear why. Many kidney cancers are detected during procedures for other diseases or conditions. Imaging techniques such as computerized tomography (CT) are being used more often, which may lead to the discovery of more kidney cancers.
